Disabled Risk Assessment

disabled access to Harbour Park
Harbour Park is suitable for Disabled People, Physically Challenged and people who use wheelchairs.

It is on one level, and there are Toilets, specially built, with wheelchair access situated in the Main Arcade and in the Harbour Village building.

If people using wheelchairs are able to vacate their chair and walk or climb steps (with or without assistance) then all Rides and Attractions are available to them. With the exception of the Waterchute.

Access to the Slide and Sharksville Golf is unobtainable to wheelchairs because of the steepness of the steps leading to these attractions.

Assessments carried out on the Slide and Sharksville Golf, revealed that it was impracticable to put in an access ramp for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

The Trampolines and the Inflatable attractions - children have to be able to walk and jump up and down with comparative ease - these two attractions are not designed for children who cannot stand or walk.

The nature of our Soft Play Area means that children run around in a state of excitement. Therefore wheelchairs or pushchairs are not allowed into this facility. This is purely for the safety of all Play Area users - able bodied and physically challenged children alike.

Most of our rides have some steps, but with assistance from their helpers, physically challenged people should be able to easily access them apart from the ones as mentioned above.

There must be a balance between protecting people against the risk to their well being and restricting disabled people from using the service. Disabled people are entitled to make the same choices and to take the same risks within the same limits as other people.

As to what ‘skills’ and abilities are needed to use the rides, we encourage discussion with the disabled customer and a Supervisor whether they are able to use those skills, although we have to follow the Manufacturer’s stipulations regarding use of the ride.
